Oral history interview with Clarence and Nona Scantlin, 1985 November 8.

Interview with Clarence and Nona Scantlin concerning their experiences as owners and operators of grocery and furniture refinishing businesses in Fort Worth, Texas. They discuss Clarence's family background, his employment at a grocery store in Kansas City in 1917, his work for Sandegaard's grocery store in Fort Worth in 1919, his employment with A&P Tea Company from 1927 to 1937, opening grocery stores in Fort Worth, the equipment and food products at grocery stores in Kansas City and Fort Worth, and the prices of goods during the Depression. They also talk about their reasons for leaving the grocery business in 1941, Clarence's employment with the Texas Hotel as a furniture refinisher, the establishment of a refinishing business in Fort Worth, the refinishing process, refinishing grand pianos, bookkeeping at A&P, and the problems of customer theft.
